Department of Cyber Security

The Cybersecurity Department was established in the College of Engineering and Information Technology in the academic year 1440/1441 AH.

It is one of the newly established branches of computer science, which is of great importance in maintaining the electronic security of institutions in light of the recent rise in electronic transactions and the subsequent increase in cyber-attacks. The program currently includes 29 faculty members. The department is equipped with highly efficient laboratories that cover all the requirements of the specialty, including three computer programming laboratories, a networking lab, and an information database and management lab. The labs are also equipped with analysis and design programs, simulation applications, and information security management. In addition to the student training labs, the department includes several classrooms equipped with all modern teaching supplies, such as data projectors, computers, and the internet. The department also has advanced computing capabilities, both through direct connection to the college labs and through personal computers available in the department's labs. Undoubtedly, the cybersecurity specialization is of paramount importance in driving urban development in the Kingdom. The impact of cybersecurity specialists is reflected in all development plans and various computer projects, including network and communications security, server security, and information security. The study of cybersecurity aims to graduate specialists in various fields of information security capable of promoting the rapid development witnessed by the Kingdom. Cybersecurity specialists find numerous jobs in various development fields, whether in the public or private sectors, in all cities and villages of the Kingdom.

Mission and Goals

To prepare distinctive competencies in CyberSecurity in accordance with the requirements of the job market, to carry out effective scientific research and dissemination of knowledge, and to contribute to the development and service of local and national community institutions.

Entry Requirements

To become eligible for a Bachelor of Science degree in a CyberSecurity program, a student must fulfill the following requirements:

1.      Completion of the number of semester-credit-hours required by the CYS program (133 C.H.) with Cumulative and major GPAs of 2.00 or higher on a 5.00 point scale.

2.      Completion of the prescribed and elective academic work required by the department.

Program Achievements

1.      The National Cybersecurity Authority has granted the program full alignment with the Saudi Framework for Higher Education in Cybersecurity for five years starting on 3/11/2024.

2.      Some students achieved advanced positions in cybersecurity competitions in the Kingdom.

3.      Some graduates obtain distinguished jobs.

4.      Attracting professionally distinguished faculty members

Program Outcomes

The student outcomes for the CYS program are:

·         Describe knowledge of fundamentals of CYS (e.g., Cyber Security, Ethical hacking, Enterprise Security and Forensics, Mobile & Wireless Security, databases Security, web programming).

·         Present knowledge of best practices in CYS and their applications.

·         Outline the different standards of CYS and their applications.

·         Describe the local and global impact of Security on individuals, organizations and society.

·         Analyze a problem, and identify the appropriate solution in different cybersecurity fields.

·         Design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet cybersecurity desired needs.

·         Identify and analyze user needs in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of cybersecurity.

·         Use and apply the current technic, concepts and practices in the core of cybersecurity.

·         Work effectively on teams to accomplish a common goal.

·         Engage in continuing professional development.

·         Assist in the creation of an effective project plan.

·         Identify professional, ethical, legal, security, and social issues and responsibilities.

·         Apply knowledge of computing and mathematics appropriate to the discipline.

·         Communicate effectively with a range of audiences.

·         Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for Security practices.

·         Integrate effectively information security-based solutions into the user environment.
