There is no doubt that the rapid development in the field of information and communication technology represents an invaluable blessing, as it has contributed greatly to many developments and it is an indispensable tool that has become a benchmark for progress, prosperity, and competition. E-learning has also transformed from an idea into a practical reality that greatly contributes to the enhancement and development of the educational process. Among the tasks of the e-learning unit is to provide technical and moral support to all target groups, as well as work to establish and implement a knowledge system that is based on modern technological technologies (computer software and applications, the Internet, e-mail, projectors for lectures, simultaneous direct communication, open-source e-learning programs and other technologies). Therefore, the establishment of an e-learning unit in the colleges is an important requirement to provide the opportunity for the increasing numbers of students to obtain education according to the approved standards, raise the efficiency of faculty members in e-learning and distance education, and support them in designing online courses, managing, following up, and offering them for students and all target groups.

Procedures and tasks

Tasks of E-learning Unit

  1. Supervising the technical and informational support that meets the needs of the different faculty units, taking into account speed and high quality.
  2. Supervising the construction, operation and maintenance of the information technology infrastructure in the colleges with a focus on renewal and development, taking into account safety, quality and reliability.
  3. Supervising the development of the online portal and updating its data in Arabic and English so that it reflects the actual reality of the colleges and facilitates for the site’s visitors and users, including faculty members, students, and employees, to make the most of the benefits while keeping pace with the expansion in e-learning and distance education.
  4. Coordination with the scientific departments to define the desired goals of the e-learning programs for students and the skills and experiences expected to be acquired and work to activate and develop them.
  5. Working on developing information technology in colleges and update the programs and mechanisms necessary to transform the colleges into a highly effective technical information environment based on a high-quality infrastructure environment.
  6. Participate in preparing the annual report on the colleges with regard to administration.
  7. Approving the nomination of faculty members to attend e-learning programs.
  8. Preparing periodic and annual reports on the activities and achievements of the department and proposals for developing work of them and submitting them to the authorized person.
  9. Preparing all necessary forms for implementing e-learning programs, following them up, evaluating them, and obtaining feedback from the relevant parties.
  10. Producing learning resources and electronic courses in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
  11. Establishing a question bank for the semester and final exams, to be performed by the colleges' courses professors.
  12. Building a strategic partnership with specialized parties in e-learning and distance education.
  13. Building qualified expertise and cadres in using e-learning techniques and in building digital educational content.
  14. Determine the needs of the administration in terms of staff, materials and tools, and work to provide them with the authorized person.
  15. Analyzing and studying distinguished experiences in prestigious universities and colleges in the field of e-learning and submitting the necessary suggestions for approval and follow-up of their implementation.
  16. Operating an approved e-learning system.
  17. Implementing blended learning in the colleges.
  18. Developing e-learning and distance learning services, making use of global experiences in this regard, employing technology and making the most of the capabilities of the colleges in this field.
  19. Employing the virtual classroom system in colleges in cooperation with the Computer and Information Technology Center.
  20. Providing remote training for members of the educational and administrative staff, in cooperation with the Skills Development Department.
  21. Providing distance education courses in some college programs.
  22. Follow up the implementation of e-learning programs and provide the relevant authorities with the required information.
  23. Publishing the culture of self-learning and interactive learning using technology.
  24. Developing the annual plan for e-learning in coordination with the scientific departments and implementing it after its approval.
