About the department:

The Department of Restorative Dental Sciences comprises three divisions:

1) Operative Dentistry Division

This division comprises two Preclinical courses in the second and third year followed by two clinical courses in the fourth and fifth year. In preclinical courses, students recognize the normal teeth morphology and occlusion along with principles of cavity preparation and instrumentation. Etiology of dental caries and other factors affecting hard tooth structure along with methods of prevention are the key points to be offered to dental students in such level. Clinical courses provide students with practical skills through continuous training on patient diagnosis, treatment planning and restorative dental procedures along with the basics of cosmetic dentistry in order to preserve teeth function and esthetics.   

2) Endodontic Division

This division includes one preclinical course in the fourth year and one clinical course in the fifth year. These courses provide dental students with comprehensive knowledge of pulp space morphology focusing on causes and diagnosis of different pulp pathosis. They also provide students with knowledge and skills of root canal treatment using suitable endodontic instruments. In addition to preliminary management of endodontic emergencies and traumatic injuries.

3) Dental Biomaterial Division

This division provides dental students with sufficient knowledge about different dental materials used in dentistry. Students could recognize the physical and chemical characteristics of the dental materials and methods of their application in dentistry.

  • Cariology

    Course Name: Cariology.

    Course Description:

    This course provides the student with the information related to etiology & progression and promoting factor of dental caries. It also classified patient according to risk potential to develop caries. It discusses the cariogenic bacteria classification of both caries and cavities and the preventive measures for dental caries

  • Dental Biomaterials Science 2

    This course provides the student a comprehensive study for the various dental materials which used in the dental clinic and laboratory

  • Preclinical restorative Dentistry 1

    Course name: Preclinical restorative Dentistry 1.

    Course Description:

    This course provides the student with the basic terminology in operative dentistry, lesions affecting hard tooth structure, instruments, and instrumentation. Also, the basic skills of restorative procedures and cavity preparation.

    This course provides the student with basic principles of operative dentistry techniques, different cavity preparation designs and indications . In addition to the correct manipulation and use of various restorative material

  • Clinical restorative Dentistry 1

    Course Description:

    This course provides the student with the restorative clinical procedures, get them oriented with the patient’s management , examination, and treatment of the restorative procedures

  • Preclinical Endodontics

    Course name: Preclinical Endodontics.

    Course Description:

    This preclinical course aims to deliver basic information in endodontology that covers the basic concepts needed to understand the root canal treatment procedure and its relation to peri-radicular disease and diagnosis. It will prepare the students for the clinical endodontics.

  • Clinical restorative Dentistry 2

    Course name: Clinical restorative Dentistry 2.

    Course Description:

    The Clinical restorative dentistry II is the second course exposing dental students to the full clinical setting, the aim is to allow students skills to progress performing more complex and advance restorative clinical procedures. The course will require the students to perform a variety of restorative procedures such as class II & III cavity preparations, complex cavity preparation and cusp-buildups.

  • Clinical Endodontics

    Course name: Clinical Endodontics.

    Course code: RDS 423.

    Level: 8

    Credit hours: 3

    Course Description:

    This course aims to guide the 4th year BDS students applying their knowledge and practical skills in dentistry and endodontics to manage patients clinically. The students are expected to conduct complete root canal treatments; this includes problem-oriented examination, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Additionally, the students will be expected to learn about certain topics in endodontics which will be covered in separate lectures.
